A Philanthropic Venture

I love the new experiences that college has opened up for me this past year. I am a commuter and still live in my hometown and I am quite content with this current arrangement. I think the greatest benefit of being able to still be at home but experience college life at the same time, is the fact that I have been able to transition myself from an adolescent into an adult citizen within the two communities I inhabit. By traveling to West Plains and spending the majority of my daytime and weekdays here, I have been able to acquaint myself with the community and the many wonderful people within it. I volunteer my time at community events and have gotten to know quite a few community leaders by doing so. I am greatly enjoying my new niche within this community.

One aspect I consistently serve as a participant in is a community clean-up type of program. One of the organizations I am involved in is Student Ambassadors. A portion of this organization is dedicated to community service and improving the community that so graciously provides a home for the University. I take pride in saying that I am involved in an organization that has such a well-developed sense of community service. Just last week, my best friend Lacey and I participated in a street clean-up of our adopted street, Trish Knight Street. Despite the heat, we braved it together to ensure our community sees the pride and respect we have for it.

I truly believe that community service enriches one's life and I am grateful that I can show my love of community service while still being just the average college student.
