The Missouri State University-West Plains Associate of Science in Nursing program was established in 1983 and graduated the first class in 1985. Our program has grown from a total enrollment of 40 to 80 students. We offer two tracks leading to initial RN licensure. The regular track takes two academic years and two summers. The LPN-to-RN track takes one academic year and one summer for qualified LPNs. Our program is approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The University is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
The both tracks of the Associate of Science in Nursing Program have one admission cycle per year. Application must be made to both the University and the Nursing Program. The Nursing Program application can be accessed from this web page or can be obtained by contacting the nursing department. The application deadline is March 1 each year. Applicants are notified of acceptance by the first week of April. Accepted LPN to RN track students start nursing classes in June. Accepted regular track students usually take Chemistry and English in the summer and start nursing classes in August. If not accepted, the student must reapply to the nursing program, because the program does not maintain a waiting list from one year to the next.
Informational seminars are conducted by the department throughout the academic year. No appointment is necessary. Specific dates and times for the meetings are posted on our web page, in the local news media, or may be obtained by calling or e-mailing the nursing department.
