Team Tryout Information

General squad information...

The Missouri State University Grizzly Cheer Team supports Lady Grizzly Volleyball and Grizzly Basketball.

During volleyball we serve as partners with the Tri-Lambda Pep Club. This combined group really has a good time with the crowd and we do funny skits and cheers to generate some serious excitement!

During basketball we get the crowd fired up and really have a great time! We do floor cheers, stunting, skits, tumbling and dance routines! We have a great crowd that enjoys participating in our cheers and activities!


Do I need to register for tryouts... ?

It is not necessary, just show up at the clinic! You can contact Rachel Peterson at (417) 255-7978. Coach Keena Simpson is also available for questions.  Contact Peterson to get her contact information.


What are the GPA requirements for cheering?

The Grizzly Cheer Team has a required GPA of 2.0. Incoming freshman use high school GPA from their Senior Year.


Is there a scholarship for cheering... ?

Yes! As of now the scholarship per year is $500.00. Shoes are provided.


 

 

 

Tryouts

There are 3 parts to tryouts.

  • Part 1: Consists of Clinic

    During clinic you will be evaluated on ability to work well with others, attitude, appearance, and physical fitness. This will be worth 15 points of your total tryout score.

  • Part 2: Interview

    The coach will take time during clinic to informally discuss your goals, cheerleading experience, etc. This will be very relaxed and casual. This will be worth 15 points of your total tryout score.

  • Part 3: Skills Tryout

    We will have your skills tryout. It will be held at the West Plains Civic Center. The tryouts are closed. This will be worth 70 points.


What do I need to bring to tryouts?

Girls: White tank top, blue shorts or red shorts (no slick pants)

Boys: White t-shirt with no lettering; blue shorts or red shorts (no slick pants)

All: Tennis shoes or cheer shoes; proof of a 2.0 grade point average for graduating seniors.

 

When are tryouts?

Tryouts for 2009-2010 are as follows:

Clinics:  4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  April 15 and April 16

Tryouts:  2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19

Students are only required to attend one clinic date but attendance at both is preferred and strongly benefits the student.
