Financial Aid 

University Endowed Scholarships

Through the generosity of Missouri State University-West Plains alumni and friends, many scholarships have been established to assist deserving students. These scholarships carry the names of individuals who have been honored or memorialized by private donations made through the Missouri State University Foundation. Some of the following scholarships are fully endowed and are so noted. Others are partially endowed and developing sufficient funding for full endowment.

Endowed Academic Scholarship

Clyde R. Bell Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $400 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.5 majoring in Elementary Education. Priority will first be given to applicants from Douglas County, then Ozark or Howell Counties. Awards are made without regard for financial need. No more than one scholarship will be awarded per semester.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Lida Risner Bozman and Louis Bozman Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $1,125 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipients should be selected from the upper 10 percent of their high school graduating class and represent good character with qualities of leadership. One recipient must be a graduate from West Plains High School and one recipient from Thayer High School with proceeds to be divided equally. Financial need will be considered.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered. May be used for the completion of a four-year degree on the West Plains campus.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Bill Burris Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $1,125 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipients must be residents and high school graduates of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright Counties, who are pursuing degrees in human services and the helping professions (sociology, psychology, education, or health). Recipients should demonstrate college potential through high school performance and show leadership qualities and civic involvement. Further consideration will be given to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with two letters of recommendation, one of which can be from the high school guidance counselor and a second from an active and involved adult member of the community.

Deadline:

April 15.

Senator Doyle Childers Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $300 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Selection will be made from applicants who are enrolled in a science program and who are residents of one of the following counties: Barry, Christian, Douglas, Howell, Ozark, Stone or Taney Counties. Award will be made to an incoming freshman. Consideration will first be given to financial need, high school performance, and college potential as indicated by aptitude tests.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Angela Dawn Conway Endowed Music Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be an entering freshman from Willow Springs High School who is pursuing a major or minor in the field of music, with preference being given to a music major. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities evidenced by involvement in multiple extra-curricular and community activities. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipients may be considered for renewal but must reapply. There is a maximum of three renewals (or a two year period).

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Darr Scholar Award

Value:

Approximately $1,600 (contingent on available funding)

Criteria:

Awarded to a recipient who has been accepted into the Honors Program at Missouri State University-West Plains and is enrolled in a minimum of 15 credit hours. First priority will be given to new applicants in the Honors Program. When awarded to an incoming freshman, the applicant must have a minimum score of 30 on the ACT. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 credit hours or more, the student must have an overall GPA of at least 3.5 during the preceding year at Missouri State University-West Plains. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

Renewal:

May be renewed if funds allow.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application by April 15 and complete a typed, two-page essay detailing involvement in community service activities and/or unique honors awarded. The essay should be reflective and analytical of experiences. The candidate will be expected to attend an interview with the Honors Selection Committee.

Robert T. Drago Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,100 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to a student who is pursuing a degree in science, excluding nursing. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities. Recipient must have a 3.5 or higher GPA or be in the upper third of his/ her high school graduating class. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Marvin L. Fowler, M.D. and Elizabeth B. Fowler Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,125 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to a student enrolled in a health career program. Applicant must be a resident of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas, or Wright counties; must have an overall 3.0 GPA or higher in all previous educational programs; and must have graduated from a public high school within the preceding five years. Financial need will be considered with preference given to a student who requires financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Application should include the names of two references who know the student well.

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Jess Garnett Family Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipients must have completed at least 15 credit hours with a GPA of 3.0 or higher while seeking a degree in the field of business. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Ted and Jeanette Gilliam Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $600 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to a graduate of the Willow Springs High School who is majoring in agriculture (preferred) or education. Preference will be given to a resident of Peace Valley, Missouri, and a non-traditional student. Applicant should have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher during his or her high school career and maintain a 3.0 GPA while receiving the scholarship. Awards will be made without regard for financial need. Selection will also be based on integrity and leadership qualities as demonstrated in two letters of reference.

Renewal:

The scholarship may be renewed one time but recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and submit two letters of reference to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Glenwood Mustang Milestone Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Variable (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant must be a graduate of West Plains High School or Koshkonong High School and present letters of reference from two Glenwood School faculty members. When awarded to an incoming freshman, applicant must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school. When awarded to a second-year college student, the applicant must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 in high school and maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher in the preceding college credits. Consideration will be given to community involvement and demonstrated performance in extra-curricular and community activities.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply and meet all of the original guidelines to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office accompanied by letters of reference from two Glenwood School faculty members and an essay in response to the following: "What are your career and educational goals, and how would this scholarship benefit you?"

The Honorable William Hass Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $700 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

The recipient must be pursuing a degree in the discipline of law enforcement or criminal justice. Priority will be given to applicants in the following order: resident of Thayer, MO; resident of Oregon County; or a resident from the 37th Judicial Circuit of Missouri. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities. When awarded to a returning student, student must have maintained at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Recipient must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester. Exceptions may be made when committee feels a part-time student is more deserving. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply and continue to meet all criteria.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Judge Harold and Martha M. Henry Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $800 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient may be either a part-time or a full-time student. Primary consideration will be given to a recipient based on financial need. Preference will be given to a resident of the area served by Missouri State University-West Plains.

Renewal:

May be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Hilburn Family Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $125 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to students enrolled in programs offered by Missouri State University-West Plains who are the high scorers of the Spring and Fall Speakers Showcases held at Missouri State University-West Plains. Students from the Fundamentals in Public Speaking class are eligible to participate in the Speakers Showcases. Scores will be assigned by independent judges and scholarship recipients will be verified by the Department of Communications that oversees the Speakers Showcase events. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

Application:

Students from the Fundamentals in Public Speaking class are eligible to participate in the Speakers Showcase.

Marianna Hoover Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $300 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be full-time, degree seeking and live in the seven-county area served by Missouri State University-West Plains. Incoming freshman—consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Current student—must have at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA in any field of study. Awards will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply by the deadline.

Don and Judy Kenslow Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $350 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Student must be majoring in business, economics or elementary education and must show good citizenship by past participation in academics and extra-curricular activities. When awarded to an incoming freshmen, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Returning students must have maintained a GPA of at least 2.5. Priority consideration will be given to applicants from the seven-county service area. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient may reapply for a second year. Renewal applications will be considered on the same criteria as the original award.

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Bob Lawrence Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Variable (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to an incoming freshman who is majoring in agriculture and is a graduate of the West Plains High School or a public high school within a 50-mile radius of West Plains. Student should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Consideration will be given to financial need, with preference given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Recipient may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum six credit hours per semester.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and continue to meet the 3.0 GPA guideline. Recipient who reapplies is exempt from the incoming freshman requirement.

M. O. Looney Community Service Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $300 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be enrolled at Missouri State University with preference given to a student from Ozark County. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. A returning student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.5 and have demonstrated community involvement in high school and/or during college. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

Mike and Mary Jane Lybyer Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $900 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Consideration will be given to high school performance (3.0 GPA or upper one-third of graduating class minimum), college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Preference given to applicants from the seven counties served by Missouri State University-West Plains (Howell, Wright, Texas, Douglas, Ozark, Oregon and Shannon). Preferred vocational area of recipients is nursing. Award is made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

May be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Roy Mayfield Memorial Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $400 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Available to a full-time student with financial need. For entering freshmen, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Students with 30 hours or higher must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered for renewal.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Jim and Cindy McFarland Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Variable (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

First consideration for award will be given to a resident of Howell County and then to a resident of the remaining six counties in the University's service area. Recipient must be a non-traditional student who is enrolled in at least six hours each semester. Awarded first to an applicant with a declared degree in Special Education. If no applicant meets that requirement, awarded to a major in the field of elementary education. First consideration will be based on financial need. Secondary consideration will be given to involvement in community activities and demonstration of good citizenship.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply and have a GPA of at least 3.0.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

April 15.

Jack and Marian McNevin Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Variable (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to a student who is majoring in the teaching profession either at the elementary or secondary level; recipient must be enrolled in at least one course on the West Plains campus. Applicants must be a resident of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas, or Wright County and must have a 3.0 GPA or higher in all previous educational programs. Award will be made with regard to financial need. Recipient may be a full-time or part-time student.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered for renewal.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Emory Melton Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $600 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled with 30 credit hours or more earned, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the major field of history. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

May be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

Mountain Grove 2006 Missouri State Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $700 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to a traditional or non-traditional student who is a graduate of the Mountain Grove High School. Applicant must be enrolled in a Missouri State University-West Plains program who is attending one or more classes in the Shannon Hall facility in Mountain Grove. Applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs and be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

The scholarship is not renewable.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Mountain Grove Missouri State University Alumni Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $700 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Awarded to a student enrolled in classes located in the Shannon Hall facility in Mountain Grove. Primary consideration should be financial need. Preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Consideration will be given to academic potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and applicant should have maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher in all previous educational programs. Applicant should demonstrate involvement in community activities.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office. Application must include two letters of recommendation from individuals who can reference the applicant's involvement in community activities.

April 15.

Robert Neathery Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $700 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities. Preference will be given to a resident of the seven-county area served by Missouri State University-West Plains. Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Recipients may be considered for renewal of the scholarship but must reapply.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Judith Shepard Newman Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $300 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must have a total of 30 college hours with a GPA of at least 2.0. Preference given to a female student and priority will first be given to applicants from the seven-county area served by Missouri State University-West Plains. Awarded to a student who has a goal and will make a difference. Award will be made with regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient may be considered for renewal but must reapply by the deadline.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Jim and Nell Peters Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $600 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Must be pursuing a major in English or history. First preference will be given to a graduate of West Plains High School; then from applicants who graduated from a Howell County high school. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.5. Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Donald E. and Carol D. (Roe) Reser & Family Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,600 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be a resident of Howell County and a graduate of West Plains High School. Award made to at least a sophomore pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. Recipient must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Priority consideration is: 1) financial need; 2) academic performance; 3) leadership qualities. Must be full time. Exceptions may be made when the scholarship committee feels a part-time student is more deserving.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and must continue to qualify under original criteria and demonstrate satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

St. Francis Farm Endowed Book Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be a part-time student (9 hours or less) and should not be enrolled in the following disciplines: nursing, technology, physical education or be a member of an intercollegiate athletic team. Consideration will be given to students 25 years of age or older with minor dependent children. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

May be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Mary Lou and Don Sallee Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $400 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

When awarded to a freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities. Must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or be in the upper third of their high school graduating class. Preference will be given to applicants from Wright, Douglas and Ozark counties, respectively. Recipient must be enrolled with a minimum of 12 hours, with a minimum of 6 hours at the Mountain Grove campus. Awards will be made with regard to financial need if GPA is the same.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and obtain two letters of recommendation from the faculty on the Mountain Grove campus.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Mildred M. Schobert Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $2,250 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be a non-traditional student who demonstrates financial need, with preference given to a student who shows need but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Scholarship funds must be used by the student for course fees, student fees, book purchases, or supplies; if the student receives other sources of financial aid, the amount of the scholarship will be prorated to cover the remaining need for course/student fees, books, and supplies. Recipient may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and have demonstrated above average academic performance as a prior recipient.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Margaret W. Shaw Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Award to a student enrolled in a program at Missouri State University-West Plains. First preference shall be given to students from Oregon County. Second preference shall be given to students from a surrounding county (Ripley, Carter, Howell or Shannon). Provided that no students meet either preference, it may be awarded to students from any county in Missouri. Applicant must have demonstrated financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and continue to meet all previous guidelines.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Roger D. Shaw Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $4,050 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient should be a forestry major from Oregon County. If there are no qualified applicants with a forestry major, then consideration shall be given to majors in agriculture who are residents of Oregon County. In the event there is no qualified applicant in either of these disciplines, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student who is a resident of Oregon County but majoring in another discipline. Applicants must possess a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered for renewal.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it, along with at least two written recommendations from previous instructors, to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Carol Bell Silvey Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $700 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Award to a student enrolled in an associate degree program who intends to major in history and preferably pursue a teaching career at the secondary level. Preference to be given to a member of the most recent graduating class from Dora High School, Ava High School, or West Plains High School, respectively. Applicant must have a 3.5 or higher GPA in all previous educational programs. Award will be made without regard to financial need. Application must be accompanied by a letter of reference from an individual who is actively involved in the community.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered for renewal and must continue to meet all required guidelines with the exception of being from the most recent high school graduating class. Students who have already completed an associate degree program are not eligible for renewal.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it, along with the letter of recommendation, to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Allison London Smith Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $700 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be enrolled in a major that represents the humanities; a resident of the seven-county area (Howell, Wright, Texas, Douglas, Ozark, Oregon, and Shannon) served by Missouri State University-West Plains; not eligible for other types of financial aid; and be enrolled in at least six credit hours each semester. Awards will be made with regard for financial need. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities.

Renewal:

May be renewed automatically as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Dr. Bruce Mitchell Smith Endowed Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,000 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be from the seven-county service area: Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Douglas, Wright, Texas, or Shannon. Recipient must be enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains and majoring in the teaching profession at the secondary level or a student who is pursuing a career in marketing or management. Preference will be given to a non-traditional student who is a former graduate of a Howell County high school. Applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Consideration will be given to a student's involvement in community activities. Award will be made with regard to financial need. Recipient may be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student.

Mynde Tarter Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Criteria:

Recipient must be enrolled in a program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Applicant must be a graduate of the most recent West Plains High School graduating class who was an athlete, had a record of good attendance, and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Preference will be given to a female student. Consideration will be given to an individual who is goal oriented and serves as a role model or mentor for younger students. Applicant must have good moral values and work ethics as demonstrated by one letter of reference. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and must continue to meet all required guidelines with the exception of being from the most recent graduating class of West Plains High School.

Onita Trett Endowed Scholarship

Criteria:

Recipient must have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.5 and must have completed at least 20 hours of college course work. Preference will first be given to a resident of Ozark County or then to a resident of Howell, Oregon or Fulton County (Arkansas), respectively. Priority will be given to an applicant who is majoring in English or communications. Recipient must be enrolled in either an English or a communications class each semester. Award will be made with some regard for financial need.

Scholarship will be awarded to a high school graduating senior from the seven-county service area. Primary consideration should be financial need. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities.

Renewed automatically for three additional semesters if a GPA of 2.5 is maintained.

Walt Wegner Scholarship for Religious Studies

Criteria:

Awarded annually to student(s) enrolled at Missouri State University, either the Springfield or the West Plains Campus. First priority will be given to students on the West Plains Campus who are pursuing a major or minor in religious studies. Second priority will be given to students who graduated from a high school in the seven-county service area (Howell, Wright, Texas, Ozark, Douglas, Oregon and Shannon). Recipient must have completed at least 30 semester hours, including three hours of religious studies course work, with a GPA of at least 3.50. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

West Plains Bank & Trust Endowed Scholarship

First preference is to a resident of Howell County. Second preference is to a resident of the remaining six counties of the service area. If awarded to a student enrolled at the junior or senior level, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.0. Priority will be given to a student majoring in the field of business who is enrolled in a Springfield program on the West Plains campus; however, if there is no qualified candidate, then award can be made to a student majoring in any academic area offered by Missouri State University - Springfield on the West Plains Campus. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

West Plains Campus Letters and Communications Scholarship

When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to students with a B average and ACT score of 22 or above, majoring in English or communications, and with leadership qualities as shown through extra-curricular activities. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 hours or more, student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a GPA of at least 3.5 in English or communications. Awards will be made with regard for financial need.

Renewal:

May be renewed one time if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and reapplies for the scholarship.

Marvin Wheeler and Lorene Wheeler Scholarship

Criteria:

Recipient must be a resident of West Plains, Missouri, who is studying in a mathematics or science field with the intention of obtaining an associate degree in either discipline. Consideration will be given to financial need and high school GPA (preferably 3.0 or higher).

Renewable for up to three years, but recipient must reapply each year.

Award will be made with regard to financial need.
