Restricted Scholarships

These scholarships are provided by individuals or organizations on an annual basis.

Maxine Brown Restricted Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be enrolled at the Missouri State University-West Plains Houston Campus. Applicant should be a graduate of a Texas County high school. If there are no qualified applicants, then the recipient should be from an adjoining county. Recipient must be a single parent pursuing higher education. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities; and the student should have graduated from high school with at least a 2.5 GPA or equivalent. Award will be made with regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Martha Carter Restricted Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be full-time. Incoming freshman—consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Sophomore level or higher student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.5 and a GPA of at least 3.5 in the major field of study. If more than one applicant has the same GPA, class rank, etc., then preference will be given to the financial need demonstrated by one applicant.

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Colbert and Nora B. Easley Restricted Memorial Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Priority will be given to a recipient who is a graduate of Willow Springs High School. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. The area of emphasis at Missouri State University-West Plains must be communications or nursing. Preference will be given to a student who is hearing impaired.

Renewal:

Recipient may be considered for renewal but must reapply.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Doug Darr Community Leadership Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $2,500 each (contingent on available funds).

Criteria:

Applicant should be from the seven county service area. Preference will be given to a student majoring in one of the following disciplines: political science, education (elementary or secondary), business or communications. Applicant should demonstrate community involvement and cite successful leadership experiences.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Earl's Dodge Chrysler Jeep Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Award to a student enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains who is majoring in a business field (accounting, finance, or marketing) or agriculture. Recipient must be a resident of Dent, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County. Applicant should have maintained an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and continue to meet the grade point average guideline.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

First National Bank Restricted Scholarship for Howell County

Value:

Approximately $1,500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant should be a major in the field of business or elementary/secondary education and be a spring graduate of a Howell County high school. A high school GPA of at least 3.0 should have been achieved and should be maintained in college. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Scholarship is not renewable.

Deadline:

April 15.

First National Bank Restricted Scholarship for Texas County

Value:

Approximately $1,500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant should be a current year spring graduate of a Texas County high school. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. A GPA of at least 3.0 should have been achieved and should be maintained in college. Applicant should be a major in the field of business or elementary/secondary education. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Scholarship is not renewable.

April 15.

Lela and Lowell Fleenor Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,000 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Award to a student enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains who is entering the teaching profession at the elementary or secondary level. First preference will be given to a former graduate of the West Plains High School; second consideration to be given to a Houston High School graduate. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Recipient may be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student. Awards will be made with regard for financial need.

James and Audrey Friend Restricted Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be a graduate of Licking High School. Preference will be given to a student attending the Missouri State University-West Plains Houston campus. Awards will be made to an incoming freshman; consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Recipient must be enrolled in at least three hours each semester. Award will be made with regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Jess and Betty Garnett Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,000 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant must be majoring in business and be a resident of the seven-county service area. Applicant must have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours before applying for the scholarship and must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Financial need is considered. Preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Recipient may be enrolled full time or part time.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered for renewal and meet all previous requirements.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with two professional and/or academic letters of reference.

Deadline:

April 15.

Jim and Mary Lou Gentry Restricted Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be a member of a recent graduating class of Cabool High School. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student renewing the scholarship, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 in their field of study. Recipient must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester. Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Gourley Foundation Restricted Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $2,500 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient should be a first-generation college student who demonstrates initiative and is self-motivated. First consideration will be given to a resident from Wright County. If none of the applicants are from Wright County, further consideration will be given to the following counties respectively: Douglas, Texas and Howell. Applicant may be pursuing any area of study, but first consideration will be given to an applicant pursuing a business, a vocational based major, science or agriculture degree. Recipient must possess and maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Recipient must reapply to be considered for renewal.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with one letter of reference.

Deadline:

April 15.

Harlin Family Business Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,000 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Award to be made to a student majoring in the field of business and a graduate of an Ozark County high school. If awarded to an incoming freshman, recipient must be in upper third of his or her graduating class. If awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior level, the student must have maintained an overall grade point average of at least 3.00 in his or her field of study.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

April 15.

Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $2,500 each (contingent upon available funds)

Criteria:

The intent of this scholarship is to "significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient" and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Primary consideration will be given to non-traditional applicants; however, a traditional student may receive the award if he or she has demonstrated a commitment to learning/education that exceeds that of the non-traditional applicants. Recipient must be a resident of Wright, Shannon, Howell, Oregon, Douglas, Texas or Ozark counties. First consideration will be given to a resident of Howell County. Applicant must have graduated from a public high school or obtained a GED. Recipients may be enrolled full time or part time.

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarship for Howell County

Value:

Two awards of approximately $2,500 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

The intent of this scholarship is to "significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient" and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Primary consideration will be given to traditional applicants who are graduates of a Howell County public high school. Recipient may be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student.

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarship for Respiratory Therapy

Value:

Two awards of approximately $2,500 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

The intent of this scholarship is to "significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient" and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Applicant must be enrolled in the Respiratory Therapy Program. Primary consideration will be given to traditional applicants who are graduates of a Laclede County public high school. Second consideration will be given to traditional applicants who are graduates of public high schools in the seven-county service area. Recipients may be enrolled full time or part time.

Elton Hoerning Restricted Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient should be enrolled at the Missouri State University-West Plains Mountain Grove campus. Applicants who are graduates from Mountain Grove High School will be given first consideration, then graduates from Wright or Texas County high schools. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and leadership qualities. Award should be made to a student majoring in the field of science with preference given to a biology major. Recipient should have graduated from high school with at least a 3.5 GPA or equivalent. Award will be made without regard for financial need.

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Eual "Bud" James Academic Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $400 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant must be a resident of the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Texas, Shannon, or Wright) with preference being given to a graduate of an Oregon County high school. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Academics will be the primary consideration for this scholarship. Full-time student preferred.

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with two letters of reference which speak to the student's involvement in community activities.

Kabul Nursing Homes Scholarship in Honor of Joe Spears

Value:

Approximately $1,000 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be pursuing a degree in a health-related field (i.e. nursing, pre-medicine). First consideration will be given to a graduate of Cabool High School, then a candidate from the seven-county service area. Applicant should have earned a 3.00 GPA or the equivalent. If several applicants meet the above guidelines, then financial need will be considered.

Local Emergency Planning Committee of Howell and Oregon Counties Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant must be enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science degree program in Fire Science Technology. Recipient must be a resident of Howell or Oregon county and be a volunteer or paid firefighter. Award will be made without regard to financial need. Recipient may be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with at least one letter of reference written by a fire chief; preference will be given to a candidate who has letters of reference from multiple fire chiefs.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Deadline:

April 15.

Math Educators of South Central Missouri Restricted Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $400 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Selection of recipient will be based on the following: GPA, application, and letter(s) of reference. First preference will be given to a mathematics major, second preference to a mathematics minor, and third preference to an education major. Students must have completed at least 45 hours (at least 30 at Missouri State University-West Plains), have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0, and be a graduate of a south-central Missouri high school. Recipient must be enrolled in at least six hours during the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered. Scholarship cannot be received more than two years.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application along with letter(s) of reference and submit to the Financial Aid Office by March 15 in order that recipient can be honored at MESCM Annual Spring Meeting.

Deadline:

March 15.

Naomi McKee Memorial Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $250 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be majoring in elementary education and be a graduate of a high school in Ozark or Howell counties. Consideration will be given to a student who has demonstrated involvement in the community. Applicant should have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Award will be made with regard to financial need and preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Scholarship may be used for book purchases.

Renewal:

Recipient may be considered for a one-time renewal but must reapply.

Missouri State University–West Plains Alumni & Friends Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Two awards of approximately $250 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicants must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Science degree program through Academic Outreach at West Plains; one scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in teacher education and one to a student majoring in the field of business. Applicants must be a resident of Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas, or Wright County and have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher in their disciplines. Application must include demonstration of leadership within the student's professional field and the community in which the applicant resides. A 500 word essay entitled "Why This Program is Important to Me and My Future" is required with the application.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with the 500-word essay.

April 15.

Valeria Moore Memorial Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $300 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be at least a second semester freshman with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Financial need is considered.

Renewal:

Recipient may be considered for renewal of the scholarship but must reapply.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Mountain Grove Subway Restricted Current Scholarship for Freshmen

Value:

Two awards of approximately $200 each (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant must be a Mountain Grove High School graduate. Awarded to an incoming freshman who has been a productive student actively involved in public high school and/or who has been employed while attending high school. Applicant must be enrolled at least 12 hours each semester and be actively employed part-time (20 hours or more per week). Award will be made with regard to financial need.

Renewal:

 

The scholarship is not renewable.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office with one letter of recommendation from an individual who can reference the student's involvement in high school and/or employment while attending high school.

Deadline:

April 15.

Saddle Rock Clydesdales Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Variable (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant must be a dependent of a current employee of Saddle Rock Clydesdales Ranch. Award will be made without regard to financial need.

Renewal:

May be renewed automatically as long as the student is maintaining a 2.5 GPA.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Mary H. Sheid Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be from the seven-county service area. When awarded to a student who has earned 30 hours or more, the student must have an overall 3.0 GPA and a 3.5 GPA in the major of science or business. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

Renewal:

Scholarship is not renewable.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office with two letters of reference.

Deadline:

April 15.

Texas County Memorial Hospital/Marlene Martensen Educational Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $600 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must reside in Texas County and be a graduate from a Texas County high school. Preference will be given to a full-time student, traditional or non-traditional. Only students attending the Missouri State University-West Plains Houston campus may receive the scholarship. Applicant must have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA. A+ program students are not eligible. Applicant may be majoring in any academic discipline.

Renewal:

Scholarship is not renewable.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Deadline:

April 15.

Thayer Plant Food/Myrtle Fertilizer Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $500 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Applicant must be a graduate of a high school in Oregon County. Recipient must be an incoming freshman who has maintained an overall high school GPA of at least 2.5 in his or her academic career at a public school. Applicant must demonstrate past or present membership in a Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization or a 4-H group. Award to a student majoring in agriculture with preference given to an Agricultural Business major.

Renewal:

Scholarship is not renewable.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with two letters of reference to document participation in a Future Farmers of America organization or a 4-H group.

Deadline:

April 15.

Colonel Kent Thomas Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $425 (contingent on available funds).

Criteria:

Recipient should have served or be pursuing a career in fire science, law enforcement, or the military (including the Coast Guard), or the recipient may be the child of someone who is and has been employed in one of these areas. Consideration will be given to financial need. Preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Primary consideration will be given to non-traditional students. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Recipient may be enrolled full time or part time.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

Jeff Thompson Fallen Firefighter Memorial Restricted Current Scholarship

Value:

Approximately $1,000 (contingent on available funds)

Criteria:

Recipient must be enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science degree program in Fire Science Technology. Recipient must be a resident of Carter, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Reynolds, Shannon, Texas, or Wright County. Preference will be given to a resident of Howell County. Financial need will be considered. Preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher in all previous educational programs. Preference will be given to candidates with the higher ACT score. Recipient must be enrolled in at least six credit hours per semester.

Renewal:

Recipient must reapply to be considered and meet the GPA guideline.

Application:

Complete the Missouri State University-West Plains scholarship application and return it to the Financial Aid Office along with one letter of reference written by a chief officer or member of a Fire Board who can speak to the potential of the applicant with regard to firefighting and a minimum 200-word essay which responds to "What I have to offer the Fire Science Program" and/or "Why I want to be involved in firefighting." An oral interview should be conducted of the top three candidates.

The 37th Judicial Circuit Scholarship

 

Value:

Tuition for up to 12 credit hours contingent on available funds.

Criteria:

Students must be selected to perform with the Theater in Education Players. The select group will travel weekly to area public schools to present short dramas. Students must be enrolled in THE 112. The scholarship is available for the spring semester.

Renewal:

Recipient must meet above criteria to renew.

Application:

By audition with instructor.
