Focus:

The General Educational Development (GED) Test measures the essential academic skills and concepts of a traditional high school education. A GED graduate has demonstrated higher-order thinking by passing a rigorous seven and a half hour battery of tests in the core high school curriculum areas of writing, social studies, science, literature and the arts, and mathematics. These tests measure adults' ability to understand and apply information; to evaluate, analyze, and draw conclusions; to solve problems; and to express ideas and opinions in writing.

The GED offers the opportunity to earn high school credentials. The GED program is jointly sponsored by the American Council on Education and state, provincial, and territorial departments of education.
