WEST PLAINS, Mo.– The Virtual Planes User Group (VPUG), a student organization at Missouri State University-West Plains, will host a Smash Brothers Brawl video game tournament from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the West Plains Civic Center Magnolia Room as part of its Digital Cup Series.
The organization is comprised of students in the Associate of Applied Science in Computer Graphics and Programming degree program, as well as those interested in developing and playing video games.  It is sponsoring the tournament as a fundraiser to attend the fall 2008 Game Developers Conference in Austin, Texas, according to Jeff Huff, Assistant Professor of Computer Graphics and the organization’s sponsor.
The double elimination tournament will feature singles and team play using eight-foot diagonal screen video projection of six Nintendo Wii systems.  Cash prizes will be presented to first and second place finishers in both the singles and team categories.
Those participating will be charged $10 entry fee.  For more information about the April 5 event, e-mail Huff at JeffHuff@MissouriState.edu.
