WEST PLAINS, Mo.– A new scholarship at Missouri State University-West Plains will help non-traditional students purchase their books for classes.
The Non-Traditional Student Book Scholarship will give students age 22 or over who are entering Missouri State-West Plains for the first time up to $250 to help cover the costs of their required books, said Recruitment Specialist Rachel Peterson.
“What we hope to provide with this scholarship is an opportunity for non-traditional students – those who are 22 and older – to attend classes more economically,” she explained.  “This is an excellent opportunity to save on a significant expense for college students.  I hope those students who are undecided about college will take advantage of this scholarship and give it a shot.”
The scholarship will be offered for the first time for the Fall 2009 Semester and will be awarded to students who are age 22 and older as of the first day of the semester.  Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need and the student’s ability to benefit academically.  The scholarship can be renewed for the subsequent spring semester if funds are available.
Eligible students who have been admitted to the university must apply for the scholarship in the Missouri State-West Plains Office of Financial Aid, located in Looney Hall Room 201, by July 15.
“Missouri State University-West Plains is able to offer this scholarship and many like it because of the great community support shown through the Campus Opportunities Campaign,” Peterson said.  “We are fortunate that we have individuals in the community who want to give back to increase educational opportunities for their neighbors and friends.”
